MUN OS, in the open
MUN OS's code is public now, and there is a preview you can try on your computer today.
The code of MUN OS, the console's system, is on GitHub now, under the Apache License 2.0: github.com/Play-MUN/mun-os.
There is no hardware yet. What there is is a preview, 0.1.0-dev.2: an ARM64 image your computer runs as a virtual console with QEMU, the same on macOS, Linux and Windows.
What you can do with it
- Switch the console on, insert the MUN Collect Game Card, play and save on the card.
- Switch it off, on again, and carry on where you left: the save lives on the card, not in the console.
- Eject the card safely, and choose the language and the resolution.
Where it has been checked
- On a Mac with Apple Silicon, with window and sound.
- On GitHub's virtual machines, without a window: macOS, Linux (x86_64 and ARM64) and Windows (x86_64 and ARM64). We have not tried it yet on a Linux or Windows PC, nor with window and sound outside the Mac.
What is new
- A start-up of its own: Play MUN, then MUN with its moon, in time with its sound.
- The menus' sounds, and games built on SDL or OpenGL in the console's resolution.
- Guides to get started, make a Game Card and bring a game to MUN.
Not there yet: controllers (keyboard for now), updates and the hardware.
Every image comes with the source of the packages it is made of. To try it, getting started; to contribute, contributing.
